3D puff embroidery on Richardson 112 and 511 caps
3D puff puts a layer of foam under satin stitches so letters and shapes stand off the cap. It works on structured Richardson fronts: the 112, 511 flat bill, 168 seven-panel and 312. Battle Born Clothing digitizes puff separately from flat work and quotes it per design.
What puffs and what does not
- Puffs well: block letters, numbers, bold initials, thick shapes at least about 0.25 in wide.
- Stays flat: thin script, outlines, small text, fine detail, gradients.
- Common combo: a puffed main mark with flat-stitched tagline or detail underneath.
Price

How we run it
Foam is laid over the hooped cap, the satin columns sew through it, and the excess foam is torn away and heat-cleaned. We run puff on the Happy HCD2-1501 with Maggie magnetic frames so the structured front stays square. Every puff job gets a physical sew-out photo on the proof, not just a simulation.
Questions
Can my whole logo be 3D puff?
Only if every element is bold enough. We usually puff the main mark and run the rest flat. The proof shows exactly which parts rise.
Does puff wear down?
Properly digitized puff holds up to normal wear and spot cleaning. Do not machine wash puff caps.
